NY Times: Jeb is not the smarter brother, just the sober one

The Times had an insightful piece where it explored the myth that Jeb Bush is the smarter Bush brother.

...it wasn’t that Jeb was oozing an arching intellect or compelling profundity as he grew up. It was just that, in juxtaposition with his more careening brother George Walker Bush — the one who drank, who ran into problems with the police, whose fraternity was accused of hazing and branding pledges — Jeb appeared more stable.”

So it wasn't that Jeb was smarter... he was just more sober. From my view he's been acting pretty dumb. He persists in campaigning in Spanish which only fans suspicions that he is more sympathetic to illegals than he is to citizens. He says dumb things like "illegal immigration is an act of love" and can't seem to find fault with any illegals, even killers or welfare queens. The one issue he pushes the most is the one that alienates Republicans the most. These are not the actions of a smart man.

Then there is the question about his passion:

...his reputation for seriousness comes with its own problems.Donald Trump “is right in one respect,” said Mr. Minutaglio: “Jeb Bush is far lower in energy than his brother George.” The younger Bush is now suffering in the polls; he’s dropped from 17 percent in July to 8.3 percent last week.

And this great comment from the normally myoptic Times comments section:

I know people can't really help how they look, but Jeb always looks apologetic for being there. He always looks like he wishes he were somewhere else. He almost looks like he's in pain when he has to face people. He comes across like he really doesn't want to be president. I wonder if his family is pushing him into something he doesn't want.

So is Jeb smarter than George W.? There's no evidence of that. But he certainly seems lower energy than George W., and he seems even more charisma-impaired than George W.

Exit question: If you had to choose a bridge partner, would you choose Jeb or George W?

Can anything salvage Scott Walker's campaign at this point?

Scott Walker is coming out with a new initiative! He wants to make it illegal for federal workers to unionize. It's a good proposal, because union dues are often used for political purposes. In effect taxpayer money is used to promote candidates who vote to give more taxpayer money to the big public sector unions. Walker's proposal would end that. And to his credit, he is the only candidate who had brought forth this idea, so far.

Previously we speculated about the next politician to join Rick Perry in the political afterlife (what you and I call the private sector). Today we have a different question: by what date must the major candidates actually win a primary or caucus to prove they are viable, to avoid the political scrambling of their brains in their campaign wombs? (Note to Paul, Jindal, Huckabee, Rubio, Fiorina, Christie, Santorum, Gilmore, Pataki, and Graham supporters: this article won't interest you, it's only about candidates who have at least a slight possibility of becoming president, a greater than asteroid-crashing-into-Bruce Willis's-home possibility of success.)

For many conservatives, there is starting to be a common view that Donald Trump and Ted Cruz are the top choices. Jeb Bush is too salsa, Scott Walker is too Elmer Fudd, and Ben Carson's amnesty loving ways are too anathema for many conservatives. What does that leave us with?

Have you ever considered having your head cut off, your brain pumped with antifreeze, and then cryogenically frozen? If you have, you should first read this very important article the New York Times thought it important enough to write more than 7,000 words about and feature prominently on its front page. The story was about a young woman named Kim Suozzi, who, dying of brain cancer, decided that when she was near death that her head should be chopped off from her body and then frozen until science found a cure for her cancer. And, also, a cure for her lack of a body. And, also, a cure for the freezing damage too.

Before we speculate on who will be the next to drop out of the GOP Presidential race, I think we should show a moment of respect for Rick Perry. Even Donald Trump was very nice to Perry, calling him an honorable man:

Donald Trump was asked how long it will take to get rid of our illegal aliens. He was asked if it could be done in five to ten years. That's the answer most politicians give to any question, such as balancing the budget--it's a long enough time frame so they will be out of office before they are held responsible for not delivering on their promises.
