Ted Cruz's solution to illegal aliens: self-deportation

For months Ted Cruz has refused to call for deportation of illegal aliens. He has called for securing the border, but has refused to talk about what to do with illegals already here, saying he would not address that issue until the border was secured.

Well, he has finally addressed what he would do.

Once we secure the border, you stop filling the boat that’s sinking, a number of people start to go home voluntarily every year to be with their families. That population will start shrinking. After that, you deport the criminal illegal aliens. The population continues to shrink. After that, you put in place strong E-verify so those here illegally can’t get jobs. The population continues to shrink. And then once we have finally demonstrated to the American people that we have secured the border, the problem’s solved, it’s not a promise from a politician, it’s not empty words, it’s been done, then and only then, I think we should have a conversation with the American people about what we should do about whatever smaller population remains

I now think that Cruz's position is pretty clear. Unlike Donald Trump, he will not massively deport illegal aliens. He will only those who have committed "major" crimes, not counting the crime of entering the country illegally. Cruz will try to shrink the illegal population by preventing them from getting jobs. Although Cruz doesn't explicitly say it, it seems that those who remain will then be given some sort of legalized status. (At least, that's what I get out of "conversation with the American people about what we should do about illegals who remain".)

Unfortunately, I think Cruz's plan is not very realistic. Many employers will find ways to skirt e-verify and pay illegals under the table as they currently do.

Most importantly, Cruz says nothing about cutting off welfare for illegal aliens. Schooling is required by a misguided supreme court decision. Illegals get free medical care in clinics and emergency rooms. They also get food stamps and other benefits. Cruz doesn't talk about eliminating any of those benefits. Furthermore, as many of those benefits are state or local driven or ordered by courts, they would be difficult to terminate.

While Cruz imagines only a small number of illegals remaining after the border is secure, I think unless welfare for illegals is ended, it will more likely be a larger number than a smaller one.

That's why I think Donald Trump's approach to illegal immigration, which includes massive deportations and ending birthright citizenship through legislation (unlike Cruz, who believes it requires a constitutional amendment), deals more effectively with the illegal problem. That's why I say if you want the illegal problem ended most decisively, vote for Donald Trump; if you want the lowest taxes (Cruz's tax plan is much better), reduced regulations, reduced government spending, and constitutionalist judges, vote for Ted Cruz. Unfortunately, we can't have both.

Does Affirmative Action cause mental illness in black & hispanic students?

There have been a lot of protests from minority students on college campuses who are angry about the alleged racism they feel from the schools they have chosen to attend. But when you read this article in the Times about minority unhappiness at Amherst, a lot of it sounds like mental anxiety, even illness, created by affirmative action:

NYT says Middle Eastern Muslims, not Middle Eastern Muslim Refugees, commit terrorism

Everyone can relax now. The New York Times has produced a study showing that Muslim refugees from the Middle East don't commit acts of terrorism. The acts of terrorism are actually committed by Muslim Middle Easterners who enter America on other grounds; therefore, there is no reason to stop Muslim Middle Eastern refugees from entering America. Marco Rubio implies if terrorists attack, Ted Cruz is to blame... not himself

Marco Rubio says that if there is a terrorist attack in America, it will be because of people who voted against NSA surveillance, and he has previously criticized Ted Cruz for voting against it. So he seems to be saying that future terrorist attacks will be on Ted Cruz's head. Additionally, one of his Super Pacs is running an ad saying that Cruz voted to weaken our ability to fight terrorists.
What exactly did Cruz vote for? Cruz voted for a bill that stops the NSA from collecting all phone records from all Americans. There is no reason for the government to keep details on all our phone records. Remember the days when the government had to show "reasonable suspicion" and needed a warrant to get our private information? Ever since the Bush administration that has been ignored and the government has been gathering data on all of us.

NJ Muslims celebrating 9/11 has now unhappened... and Ben Carson agrees

People can be forgiven if they don't know whether to believe Donald Trump's claim that he saw Muslims celebrating 9/11 in New Jersey. But I, a New Yorker who was nearly killed in 9/11 and had that day burned into my memory, saw it with my own eyes. There was a video aired of the incident. I remember seeing obviously Arab looking individuals dancing and shouting for joy on rooftops. There were less than thousands of them, but there were way more than a handful.

French Muslims offended by search for Muslim terrorists among Muslims

French Muslims are feeling discriminated against. It seems the police, in search of terrorist Muslims who killed 130 people and wounded hundreds more in Paris, are focusing exclusively on Muslims, and French Muslims are feeling discriminated against. After all, why aren't the police looking for Muslim terrorists in the Christian community, or the Jewish community? It's enough to make the Muslim community feel unfairly singled out.
