Harvard Law ditches slave logo but still promotes slavery

Harvard Law School's logo, which is three bushels of wheat which was designed by one of the founding funders of Harvard who was a slave holder, is going to be changed.

Harvard Law School is poised to abandon an 80-year-old shield based on the crest of a slaveholding family that helped endow the institution, as campuses across the country debate the use of historic names and symbols that some consider offensive.

On Friday, a law school committee said the shield did not representHarvard values. It shows three sheaves of wheat, a symbol that is derived from the family crest of an 18th-century slave owner, Isaac Royall Jr., who endowed the first law professorship at Harvard, though the gift did not by itself create the law school. The image of the wheat appears under the word “Veritas,” or “Truth” in Latin, the Harvard motto.

On the other hand, if Harvard was founded with slave money, isn't the only proper thing for it to do is to shut down? Otherwise the legacy of that slave funding continues.

But perhaps that is all right because Harvard continues to promote slavery--slavery to the government. Harvard's lawyers who become politicians and judges promote policies which sustain an ever more powerful government who tells each of us what to do and mandates "results" in each of our lives. That's a form of slavery.

In other nuttery, Amherst is thinking of getting rid of its mascot because it might be offensive to Indians.
Amherst College has decided to purge official references to its unofficial mascot, Lord Jeffery Amherst, a military commander in the French and Indian War who was accused of brutality toward Native Americans.

Do you think "Native Americans" were brutal to white people in the French and Indian War? Should anything named for an Indian be renamed as a result? As a matter of fact, why isn't Amherst changing its name entirely? Perhaps it can call itself Comanche College.

In December, two Harvard College deans apologized for distributing place mats labeled “Holiday Placemat for Social Justice,” which offered advice to students about how to discuss controversies such as the house “master” title, “black murders in the street” and “Islamophobia/refugees” with their families. The place mats advised students to, for example, “listen mindfully,” “breathe” and “ask questions.”

Place mats where you can rub your feet and step on social justice? I love it!

Others have been criticized for supporting free speech, such as Erika Christakis, a Yale lecturer who argued for “transgressive” Halloween costumes that students said could perpetuate racial stereotypes.

When will colleges show more respect for ghosts and mummies?
This is the kind of nuttery going on at colleges today.

Afghans we helped express their love for the Taliban

The Washington Post had an article which made excuses for Afghans saying that they would support the Taliban. But when you get right down to it, we spent billions of dollars and many soldiers' lives trying to save that "country", and after all our effort, they still want to be ruled by a backwards religious theocracy.

Watching Chris Christie stand silently behind Donald Trump was very odd. For such an alpha male, to stand there silently as the number two was an unusual role for Christie. Even more so from the very disturbed look on his face. His eyes kept shifting left and right, as if to say, what am I doing here? His humiliation was compounded by Trump making a joke at Christie's expense about businesses leaving New Jersey.
