Washington DC's new "Purple Line" is a train to nowhere

One of the favorite words in the liberal lexicon is "light rail". This phrase refers to big, heavy trains that are much heavier than cars or buses but liberals call them "light", as if they were low calorie and healthful, like the phony potato chips they sell that taste like bad chemicals.

The District of Columbia is creating a new Purple Line "light rail". Unlike much of the system, this is going to be above ground. And unlike most of the system, it is not connecting the suburbs with DC; instead it is connecting one set of suburbs, Bethesda, Maryland, with another set of suburbs, College Park/New Carrollton, MD. (Perhaps if the name were not already taken they should call it the Blue Line, since it is largely in Maryland).
But guess what? Most people don't need mass transit to take them from one section of the suburbs to the other. Most people in the suburbs tend to go to the city. This project is anticipated to cost $5.5 billion dollars and, as we all know, will probably end up costing even more than the initial estimate. Since this line will be on city streets it will clog up traffic and since it is going from one suburb to another it will have relatively few riders.

If there really is a substantial need for intrasuburb travel, there is an easy solution: buses. They even could have called the buses the "purple line". But that doesn't fit in with government's desire to lay a lot of tracks, pour a lot of concrete, and create a lot of expensive union jobs.

NYT readers tells us how the GOP is worse than ISIS on slave rape

The New York Times had an article describing how ISIS sex slaves are forced to stay on birth control so they don't get pregnant, and if they do get pregnant how they are forced to get abortions. I was curious to see what NYT readers would think about these terrible violations of women in the comments section. To no great surprise, they managed to place the blame on Republicans, pro-lifers, America, and Christians.

Ted Cruz should have called Ben Carson a child molester

I felt more than a little queasy seeing Ted Cruz publically apologize to Ben Carson because someone in his campaign retweeted a news story saying Carson was dropping out of the race. There was nothing wrong with repeating a news story, and Cruz looked like he was grovelling when he apologized, but Cruz did it to try to keep good relations with Carson.
