White House calls for citizenship for "Lazy Dreamers"

One of the many conspiracy theories floating around to justify President Trump's call for citizenship for 1.8 million illegal aliens is that Trump will vet them thoroughly and permit a number far less than 1.8 million to be granted citizenship.

But then Trump's Chief of Staff John Kelly volunteered today that Trump does in fact want citizenship for all of them, especially the "lazy" ones:

“There are 690,000 official DACA registrants, and the president sent over what amounts to be two and a half times that number, to 1.8 million,” he said. “The difference between [690,000] and 1.8 million were the people that some would say were too afraid to sign up, others would say were too lazy to get off their asses, but they didn’t sign up.”

The ones who didn't sign up probably didn't sign up for a reason. Perhaps they have criminal convictions, or perhaps their documentation "proving" they were in the country is clearly suspect or fraudulent. Trump went far beyond Democrats' demand to legalize the Dreamers and added more than a million illegals to his amnesty list. Kelly's comment today would appear to suggest that Trump is not going to vet them very intensively.

After all, this is the same administration which conducts phony mass raids of businesses which net zero illegal aliens, because businesses were warned of the raids in advance.

Let's face it: on judicial picks, the military, "global warming", cutting taxes, and reducing regulations, Donald Trump is a solid conservative.

But on the issue of amnesty for illegal aliens, he is to the left of Obama. Obama never proposed citizenship for such a large number. President Trump himself spreads the propaganda that 70% of Americans want amnesty for illegal aliens:

On Tuesday, Trump tweeted that “nearly 7 in 10 Americans support an immigration reform package that includes DACA, fully secures the border, ends chain migration & cancels the visa lottery. "

Kelly also announced yesterday that the DACA program will not be continued past March 5th. Perhaps he's forgotten that a federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to restart DACA and keep it going. Trump chose not to seek an immediate stay of that decision, so DACA will continue past March 5th. The Supreme Court will hear the case and probably decide in Trump's favor in June, so we can probably expect the program to end then, assuming Congress has not passed amnesty before then, but even so Kelly has made it clear that Dreamers who don't have "criminal records" (whatever that means) will not be deported even after DACA ends.

The main difference I see between Obama and Trump is that Obama put into place an illegal program to give amnesty to illegal aliens. Trump also wants amnesty for illegal aliens but wants to do it legally. Trump also wants border security but is willing to give amnesty first and border security later, seemingly oblivious to the next wave of illegal immigration that his actions will bring to our shores.

Questions for discussion:

1) If Obama had proposed legalizing 1.8 million illegal aliens, would you have been for it if it were originally Trump's idea?

2) If Trump offers amnesty to 1.8 million illegal immigrants and only their "close relatives", how many people will really get citizenship?

3) If Trump gets what he wants, amnesty now and a wall/border security in a few years, how many more illegals will get past our open borders before it is secure?

4) Why does President Trump show zero interest in mandatory E-Verify and ending birthright citizenship?

5) Why does ICE conduct mass raids where they arrest few or no illegals?

6) Do you agree with President Trump's assertion that 70% of Americans want amnesty for 1.8 million illegal aliens?
