What is the media's definition of 'moderate' democrats?

Sen. Claire McCaskill says she and other moderate Senate Democrats could be a pivotal force in the next Congress, when the new Republican majority will woo them as swing votes on major legislation.

--Oh, she's a moderate! What's a moderate?

Moderate Democrats may be willing to work on trade deals, tax reform or budget deals, said Matt Bennett, spokesman for the centrist think tank Third Way.

--What kind of a name is "third way"--doesn't that sound vaguely sexual in nature? Anyway...

But they're not going to vote for "veto bait," such as a repeal of the Affordable Care Act or sanctioning the president for his executive order on immigration, he said.

--So now we know what a "moderate" is! It's a democrat who supports the radical Obamacare act which shredded millions of people's health care plans. A moderate is also a democrat who doesn't object to Obama radically overreaching his authority to unilaterally legalize millions of illegal immigrants.

Thanks media, now we know what a moderate is!!!!

Govt says it's good news that tens of thousands are being killed in auto accidents

Driving is getting safer.

The number of traffic deaths nationwide dropped about 3 percent last year, and the rate of deaths per 100 million miles traveled tied a record low, according to government statistics.

A total of 32,719 people died in U.S. crashes in 2013, down from 33,782 in 2012, according to figures compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. That's about 90 deaths per day, compared with 92 in 2012.

Vox reports fewer criminals in jail, but remarkably uncurious about one small detail

There are fewer Americans in prison, jail, probation, or parole than any time since 2003, Vox reports.

The number of Americans in prison, jail, parole, or probation dropped to less than 6.9 million in 2013, down 41,500 compared to 2012 and hitting the lowest point since 2003, according to a report from the Bureau of Justice Statistics.

Until 2008, the corrections population had been steadily growing for decades as all levels of government enforced tough-on-crime policies — particularly against drug offenses — that tied up more people in the criminal justice system. But states and the federal government, facing budget constraints brought on in part by the cost of maintaining large prison populations, began pushing reforms that reduced penalties for nonviolent offenders and diverted more people to punishments besides incarceration.

On Friday, the National Labor Relations Board issued complaints containing 78 charges against McDonald's. Among those are charges that McDonald's illegally threatened, fired, and cut the hours of employees who protested its wages.

That's not just significant because it concerns a huge corporation involved in a high-profile fight over wages; it's a big deal because the NLRB's general counsel recognized McDonald's as a "joint employer" of its fry cooks and cashiers, meaning the company is considered the employer alongside the smaller franchises where those people work.

California’s cap-and-trade program will cause the cost of gasoline to skyrocket after New Year’s Day, reports CBS Los Angeles. The price hikes may come as a shock to drivers, as Americans in the rest of the country will likely continue to enjoy falling fuel prices in the near future.
