Fast food is making your kids stupid, and govt needs to decide what we eat

The Washington Compost has an article filled with a breathtaking discovery--kids who eat fast foods perform more poorly in school.

Fast food consumption isn't merely connected to increases in pant size—it's tied to significant decreases in test scores among school children, according to a new national study. Researchers at Ohio State University used data from a nationally representative sample of some 11,700 children to measure how fast food might be affecting their performance in class. The study measured how much fast food the children were eating at age 10, and then compared the consumption levels to test results in reading, math, and science three years later. What they found is that even small increases in the frequency with which the students ate fast food were associated with poorer academic test results.

I think if they had also studied further, they might have found that kids who wore striped shirts had lower test scores than kids with solid colored shirts, and kids with low top sneakers had better test scores than kids in high tops (something I have always suspected). There was no discussion, of course, of whether kids who eat more fast food are more likely to be in one or zero parent households, whose moms are welfare queens or crack addicts or illegal aliens or whatever. These subjects aren't worthy of study.

The reason this subject is worthy of study is that liberals want an excuse, any excuse, to control your kid's diets. I believe decisions in this area used to belong to people called "parents".

Efforts being made to save unendangered forests from imaginary global warming

In the battle to limit the risks of climate change, it has been clear for decades that focusing on the world’s immense tropical forests — saving the ones that are left, and perhaps letting new ones grow — is the single most promising near-term strategy.

Associated Press denies Pyongyang bureau under North Korean control

The Associated Press is pushing back on a report its bureau in North Korea is nearly completely controlled by the North Korean government.

In a lengthy article for NKNews.org, Nate Thayer, a former AP stringer, reports that an internal draft agreement between the AP and North Korea’s state media outlet the Korea Central News Agency, more or less gives KCNA complete power over the bureau, its staff and its work.

Anonymous staff members in the bureau, established by the AP in 2012, told Thayer that “AP tries not to be a mouthpiece of North Korea, but it is basically impossible under the terms the bureau operates.” Certain staff members in the bureau are “hand-picked” by the North Koreans. Thayer also notes that no stories about the Sony hack, or the six-week disappearance of Kim Jong Un were written from the Pyongyang bureau.

Republicans excited by AG nominee who supports Obama's illegal actions

President Barack Obama’s pick to be the next attorney general is winning over Republicans.

Loretta Lynch, the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York, has met privately with several Republican senators in recent weeks, earning some of their early support ahead of what is expected to be a contentious set of nomination hearings early next year.

When immigration surfaced during her meeting with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Lynch said she agreed with an opinion from the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel that said Obama’s executive action on immigration was legally sound, telling the senator the opinion was “well-reasoned.”

Christians disappearing from Iraq, can you guess why?

Just a year ago, an Advent service at St. George’s Chaldean Catholic Church would have drawn 300 to 400 worshipers, says the Rev. Miyassir al-Mokhlasee. But now only around 75 people are scattered across its pews.

Ringed by concrete blast walls and police checkpoints, the church has seen its congregation shrink for the past decade. The nation’s Christian population has plummeted from more than a million to what community leaders estimate is less than 400,000 today.

Conquests by extremists from the Islamic State, known for their cutthroat brutality and intolerance for other religions, have delivered another blow to Christians in their historic heartland.

For the first time in well more than a millennium, the plains of Nineveh and its provincial capital of Mosul have been virtually emptied of Christians. Islamic State fighters, who control the northern region, had ordered Christian residents to convert, pay a tax for keeping their faith or face execution.

Libtards at Vox: What voter ID problem?

Loyola University law professor Justin Levitt tried to quantify the epidemic of voter ID fraud that's forcing so many states to pass restrictive voter ID laws. He looked for not only cases where someone was convicted, but tracked "any specific, credible allegation that someone may have pretended to be someone else at the polls, in any way that an ID law could fix."

Out of roughly a billion votes cast, he found 31 credible cases of voter ID fraud. And that is, he thinks, an overestimate.
