Did you know our soldiers are defenseless on their own bases?

Did you know our soldiers are not allowed to carry firearms on their own military bases? What radical leftwing nut job politician put that in place? Apparently, George H.W. Bush!

His policies enabled Palestinian-American Nidal Hassan to massacre a bunch of helpless soldiers at Fort Hood. Imagine how bizarre it is that our soldiers, charged with protecting us, are helpless to defend themselves most of the time.

I don't even know if such a ban is legal.

The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"

If the armed forces of the United States, at a minimum, are not a "well regulated Militia", I don't know what is. I don't think that constitutionally soldiers can be prevented from carrying arms, except in extreme circumstances.

That's why Ted Cruz is calling to change that:

Appealing to New Hampshire’s powerful gun culture, Sen. Ted Cruz said Sunday that he’s “pressing” Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain to hold hearings on whether soldiers should be allowed to carry their own concealed firearms onto military bases.

“I am very concerned about that policy,” the Texas senator told 120 gun owners at a hunting club here, before taking a trip to a firing range for some target practice. “I think it’s very important to have a public discussion about why we’re denying our soldiers the ability to exercise their Second Amendment rights.”
After three mass shootings at military installations in five years, including another at Ford Hood last year, pro-gun activists have argued that letting troops arm themselves on the job would give them a better ability to defend themselves.

Generals have argued that only military police officers should be able to carry weapons freely around base. Many in the chain of command believe more guns would only lead to more violence, especially among those who suffer from mental instability as a consequence of combat.

If soldiers can't be trusted to be carrying guns, they shouldn't be in the army. Generals who believe soldiers carrying guns would "lead to more violence" should resign, or be fired, when we get our next President.

The funniest question for each of the Republican candidates

The Republican so-called "candidates" are going to New Hampshire this weekend. I say so-called because we all know that many of them like George Pataki and Lindsey Graham have no chance of winning the nomination. Since this entire spectacle is ridiculous, I started to wonder, what is the most ridiculous question that could be asked of each of them?

How to legally bribe Andrew Cuomo

Have you ever wondered how to bribe New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, and to do it legally, without incurring any consequences? One way to do it is to ask the Governor to write a book and to give him a tremendous advance. Although I'm not calling it a bribe, that's what publisher HarperCollins just happened to do, paying Cuomo $575,000 to write a self-congratulatory book entitled "All Things Possible: Setbacks and Success in Politics and Life", detailing what a great governor and human being he is (obviously, they didn't interview his ex-wife). The book, which is rated "one star" out of five on Amazon, the lowest rating, has only sold 3,000 copies in hardcover.

Should President Obama be listed as a state sponsor of terrorism?

President Obama has removed Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism, even though Cuba supports the terrorist FARC group in Columbia and has close ties with dictatorial leftist regimes like Venezuela. But that started me thinking. Since President Obama controls the executive branch of government, making him a state actor, do you think President Obama should list himself as a state sponsor of terrorism?

Study: Female Chimpansees earn only 71% of their male counterparts

In an effort to stoke animosity between genders, the liberal media looks for two kinds of articles: (1) articles that purport to show women being discriminated against and (2) articles that show women as superior to men. But even exerting all their efforts to produce propaganda day after day there is only so much they can find to write about. So they look to turn any article into a story about sex (or race, or sexual orientation, etc.)

Foodstamps down 80% in Maine following 6 hr/week work requirement

Foodstamp enrollment in Maine (which has a conservative Republican governor) among able bodied single adults is down 80% after imposing a very modest requirement that recipients work at least 6 hours a week in a volunteer program. Of course, the media portrays this as an exercise in cruelty.
