Some deluded priests turning blind eye to lesson of Charleston shootings

It's very sad to read a New York Times article (actually, I could end the sentence right here!) that shows that some priests haven't learned the true lesson of the Charleston South Carolina shootings.

[E]ven as ministers around the country report that they are fielding more questions about security, for now at least, there is no rush among churches to follow the path of airports, schools and government buildings that have added metal detectors and armed security guards in the wake of violent attacks.

Many pastors, in Sunday’s sermons and in interviews, instead emphasized that churches kept their doors open to the ... welcoming to all.

Welcoming to all? Even to shooters who would massacre them?

“You can’t search people when they come into your church,” said Bishop Morris, the founding pastor of Mount Airy and a prelate who oversees about 30 churches affiliated with the Church of God in Christ in Pennsylvania. “I come to church and look 4,000 people in the face. I don’t know who’s in that crowd because there are always visitors. The best you can do is rely on your prayers.”

I think there is even something better than prayers, in this situation. It's called having a gun to protect yourself. If a handful of people in every place of worship had guns, massacres wouldn't happen. Period. A crazy gunman could come in and start shooting, but he wouldn't be able to leisurely kill one person after another after another without fear of being shot himself. There would be no more massacres. And the knowledge that others have guns would certainly deter a lot of attacks. If people in Black churches feel threatened, they should get guns.

The Department of Homeland Security offers grants to congregations of all faiths in urban areas to bolster security measures. The grants, a maximum of $75,000 each, can be used only for physical security improvements like cameras or bollards, not for salaries for guards

Cameras. That's just swell; the next shooting can be uploaded to Youtube.

Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie, the presiding prelate in the Texas region of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, to which the church in the Charleston attack belongs, said, “My prayer is that we don’t get to the point where there’s going to be somebody searching your bag coming in and you have to go through metal detectors, because church has always been a sacred place, a safe place, a sanctuary where you could come in freely.”

There is less of a need (though it still helps) to search bags if a certain percentage of the attendees have guns. If people can carry concealed weapons, no one would even see any difference. These priests think that safety means making sure no one in their congregation has a gun--but that's what makes groups of people vulnerable to mass murderers in the first place. What use are metal detectors without people with guns to back them up?

Bishop McKenzie, who will join other A.M.E. bishops at the funeral on Friday of the Rev. Clementa C. Pinckney, who was killed in the Charleston shooting, added that she would prefer to focus on the deeper spiritual and societal causes of that attack. “When you talk about security,

You can tell a lot about a candidate by the people who donate for it. That's why it's more than a little disturbing that Scott Walker accepted a donation from the wrong kind of racist group. What, may you ask, does the wrong kind of racist group believe? Well, here are some examples:

Could expanded background checks have prevented the massacre in Harry Reid's house?

Senator Harry Reid, wearing his now trademark "Blues Brothers" themed dark glasses, has called for more background checks for gun buyers. But I wonder if he's not focusing on the wrong target. Maybe he should sponsor legislation for expanded background checks of politicians.

Of the four major candidates for the Republican Presidential nomination, which one does not support Obamatrade? Obamatrade is a secret piece of legislation (!) we think would give President Obama special powers ostensibly to negotiate a free trade deal, but in reality which may allow him to do all sorts of things like expanding his illegal amnesty.

Global Warming causing hot dogs to slip out of buns

We know that global warming is a big threat. Oh, it may help us with our Mummy problem, and be a boon for great tits, but it causes more problems than it solves, everything from shrinking horses, causing seals to be oversexed, poison ivy to become even itchier, making trees less colorful, making trees more colorful, making reptiles walk uphill, destroying opium in Afghanistan, and is even predicted to increase cannibalism to unacceptable levels, with that last prediction courtesy of former CNN founder and exotic diner Ted Turner.

A prayer to soothe God's anger with our global warming recklessness

I read with great interest about the Pope's focus on imaginary global warming. I admire the way he is able to tune out small distractions, like the tens of thousands of people, many of them Christians, being slaughtered by radical Muslims in the Middle East, to focus on the truly big issues affecting our planet. And then the New York Times today published an article talking about how protestant Christians are also concerned with the speed in which imaginary global warming is destroying our planet.

The funniest guide to Politically Correct behavior ever!

The University of California published a guide to microaggressions. If you don't know what that is, microaggressions are ordinary, unoffensive comments and actions that offend feminists and minority "activists" with chips on their shoulders. Because this is such a big problem in the minds of liberals, UC has published an unintentionally hysterical guide to microaggressive behavior. What follows is a list of microagggresive behaviors, exactly as written, and then my own interpretation of what would not be microaggressive alternatives:
